In order for a human rights organization to succeed, they need as much public backup as possible, that’s when organizations are most strong and effective, when they have a great public voice standing with them.

Human Rights Watch is one of those organizations. They are a nonprofit human rights advocacy group made up of 400 members from around the world. Of the 400 members, there are journalists, lawyers, and country experts. Human Rights Watch try to scrutinize and show exposure to human rights breaches and hold those accountable for their wrong doings.

Human Rights Watch was established in 1978 and created the Helsinki Watch, which was designated to support citizen groups. Each year, Human Rights Watch provides over 100 reports on human rights conditions, which brings light to local and international media.

Human Rights Watch tries to bring light upon the following topics, domestic violence, rape as a war crime, child soldiers, trafficking, and the rights of gays and lesbians. Human Rights Watch cares about issues that are still present to this day and that need to be addressed and handled.

Two other well know advocates that fight for human rights are known as Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. They are the co-founders of Village Voice Media and Phoenix New Times. What they do is support minority groups.

Their goal is to support migrant rights organizations throughout the state of Arizona. The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund will help achieve groups that advocate for civil, human, and migrant rights.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin created the Village Voice media in 1970 as a backup weekly newspaper deal. Another organization that is similar to the Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund is Border Angels.

Human Rights Watch expands beyond migrants. They try to help people get the rights they deserve all over the globe. Extensive time and commitment goes into finding evidence of abused powers and helping those who need it. Human Rights Watch gets the job done.

They get to meet with governments, regional groups, and United Nations. Their goal is to put pressure on those who have a higher power to secure justice! Their voices are definitely being heard worldwide.
